Salutations, Y’all!
Spring is springing and with the month ending, I’m in a sprint to get everything finished I had planned on getting done this month.
News
This June I’ll be attending and sitting on a panel at the California Crime Writers Conference. This one is important to me. I attended back in 2019 for the first time and it inspired me to finish my book.
CCWC is geared more towards writers than readers — unlike, say Bouchercon which is a mix of both. Anyone, of course, can attend. I’ll be on on a humor panel on Sunday morning…
(Wait. This is the second time in a row I’m on a humor panel on a Sunday morning. Am I cursed?)
Book recommendation
It’s a little bit different. For one… it’s not fiction. And it’s somewhat inspired by the California Crime Writers Conference.
When I started to think more about writing my first book I picked up a copy of This Year You Write Your Novel by Walter Mosley, writer of the Easy Rawlins mystery series. He’s great. He’s fab. He writes powerful books.
I got to meet him — very briefly — at the 2019 CCWC… that first one I attended. It was an unexpected moment. He wasn’t listed as an attendee… ANYWAY…
What I like about this book — besides it being a quick and easy read (it’s just over 100 pages, y’all)— is that it’s a booster. It shows you how you can finish your book. Yes, there are nuts and bolts stuff, which are great, but laying out how you can finish, is where the rubber hits the road.
I’ve always been a big proponent of finishing. Be it a short story, a novel, a script. You have to finish it. A lot of people have ideas, most of those people might start, but few finish. *steps off soap box*
That’s it for this month! Until next time…
