Hello! It’s getting cold out there and the end of the year is upon on us… One last newsletter for 2022!
News!
I got my draft of the next book (Big F@!king Deal!) back from my editor just last week, so I’ll spend some time thinking about the notes before launching into the rewrite! I’m hoping for a Spring publication date. Of course, y’all be the first to know.
Also: the first weekend of December brought two book events.
The first was at The Book Carnival in Orange, CA. It was also my first bookstore event. And it was like a dream come true. Anne, the owner, had copies of my book available for sale, which, like, of course, but it still feels amazing to see my book out in the wild.
Eric Beetner, who is in the book recs below, hosted Lee Matthew Goldberg and I. Eric has a new book out called There and Back, which I’m excited to read. And I picked up a copy of Lee’s most recent book in The Desire Card series.
The next day was The Book Jewel, and this time Adam Frost joined us, talking about his debut, The Damned Lovely.
Look at how crossing my arms makes me look like a thoughtful author!
In the spirit of Christmas!
Attached is a short I wrote for a reading of Holiday themed crime stories way back in 2020. It was organized by the lovely Ashley Erwin, who also has a book out, get it!
It was a bit of an experiment on my part, how I used language, etc, and it seems just the right time to share it again.
Book recommendations!
Rather than a brand new recommendation, I wanted to give a shout out to the past ones. Each were great reads and I link to my initial recommendation… check them out.
The Low Desert by Tod Goldberg
The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler
They All Fall Down by Rachel Howzell Hall
Iced in Paradise by Naomi Hirahara
Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby
Two In the Head by Eric Beetner
Under Color of Law by Aaron Philip Clark
Still time to get that book lover (or yourself) a copy before the year is out.
OK, that’s it, friends. 2022, it happened so quickly and here comes 2023 and I’m super excited for what is gonna happen… but until then… I’m taking a nap.
